Real Estate Mentor

The importance of having a real estate mentor is pretty obvious; to learn from somebody who already has been there and done that will benefit you so much more than learning from somebody otherwise. Your real estate mentor has been in the field for quite some time, while you may just be venturing into it. Hence, their experience is going to hold that much more weightage than anybody else’s allowing them to potentially teach you several neat real estate tactics.

While having a real estate mentor is great, as we just discussed, choosing one can be a little more difficult. With so many people referring to themselves as “professionals” it can get a little difficult to filter out the ones who are actually worth picking up as a mentor and those are just faking their credentials and experiences. More than that, even if you do come across with legit credentials, it does not necessarily mean that they would be that much invested into helping you with your real estate related businesses.  In order for you to get the right real estate mentor, we have compiled a list of questions that you can ask the potential candidates. Their answers to these questions will greatly help you in determining if they are fit to mentor you or not.

How honest will you be in telling me about all the obstacles that I will be facing in real estate?

Asking your mentor this question would help you in determining how many obstacles he has seen in his experience. If he has seen them, he has possibly overcome them too which is why he is still in business which means that he is equipped with the right knowledge and skills to help you out if you ever get stuck in the same situation, as well. You need to pick a mentor who is more work and less talk.

What skills do I need in order to survive in the real estate business?

Your real estate mentor candidate’s answer to this question will let you know how much does he know about the real estate business. A good candidate to consider would be someone who gives you answers consisting actual skills that will help you find your way in the real estate market, not someone who gives you vague answers like “you need to be good to people.”

How willing are you to help me reach my goals and what can I do for you?

These are essentially 2 questions rolled into one. The first will tell you that now that he has the right skills and experience, how willing is he to pass this information on to you, how will he be using his knowledge to help you get to your goals. His answers would help you figuring out how good is he with thinking up of strategies.  Asking him how you can help him get to his goals would allow you to have a bit of insight into how does he think of getting you involved in his aspirations.
